Nakhoda Masjid is the largest mosque in Kolkata. The Nakhoda Mosque was originally built by Haji Zakariah or Zakaria, who was a Cutchi Memon merchant and business tycoon. The Cutchi Memons, also known as ‘Nakhodas’ or seafarers, began to trade in East and South-East Asian countries like Burma, Java, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Mauritius in the early 1730s. They reportedly came to Kolkata in 1849 for the ease of their business, since it was a major port city during the early days of the British Empire in India. #NakhodaMasjid

The Indian Museum formerly called Imperial Museum of Calcutta is the ninth oldest museum in the world and the oldest and largest museum in India and Asia, by size of collection. It has rare collections of antiques, armour and ornaments, fossils, skeletons, mummies and Mughal paintings. It was founded by the Asiatic Society of Bengal in Kolkata 1814. The founder curator was Nathaniel Wallich, a Danish botanist. #IndianMuseum

Biswa Bangla Gate, also known as the ‘Hanging Restaurant Of Kolkata’ is located in New Town, Kolkata. Several parts of New Town can be seen from the visitor’s gallery of Biswa Bangla Gate and the in-built restaurant, which is surrounded by glass, Biswa Bangla Gate Restaurant stands 180 feet high, and inside the ring decorative paintings are drawn on the wall. Taj-ul-Masjid is the largest mosque in India, it means 'The Crown of Mosques', The construction of the mosque was initiated by Nawab Shah Jahan Begum of Bhopal during the reign of the Mughal Emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar and continued to be built by her daughter Sultan Jahan Begum, till her lifetime. But the mosque was incomplete due to lakh of funds. After a long lay-off, its construction began once again in 1971 and was completed by 1985. The entrance (eastern) gate was renovated grandly using ancient motifs from circa 1250 Syrian mosques by the contribution of the Emir of Kuwait to commemorate the memory of his departed wife. #tajulmasajid
