Charminar- Hyderabad

Image
The fifth ruler of the Qutb Shahi dynasty, Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah, built the Charminar in 1591 after shifting his capital from Golkonda to the newly formed city of Hyderabad. There are various theories regarding the purpose for which Charminar was constructed. However, it is widely accepted that Charminar was built at the centre of the city, to commemorate the eradication of plague", a deadly disease which was wide spread at that time. The historical age of this monument is more than 450 years, which makes Charminar one of the oldest monuments in India. #PrideofTelangana

City of ghats- Varanasi

Image
Ghats in Varanasi are riverfront steps leading to the banks of the River Ganga. The city has 88 ghats. Most of them are used for bathing and performing various religious rituals. Few are used exclusively as cremation sites. Most of the ghats in Varanasi were built after 1700 AD, when the city came under the Marathas. Many of them such as Dashashwamedha, Manikarnika and Raj Harishchandra are associated with legends or mythologies and their sites have existed since time immemorial. #CityofGhats
